Smoking Cessation Effect
A Systematic review study published in the June 29, 2024 issue of the journal Systematic Reviews aimed at identifying the benefits and risks of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation aid in adults (age ≥18 years),
Studies have shown that e-cigarettes (whether or not they contain nicotine) have a small to moderate benefit in quitting smoking and reducing the frequency of smoking compared to other interventions such as no intervention, waiting lists, standard/usual care, smoking cessation advice, or behavioral support, although the evidence is less definitive. Nicotine-containing e-cigarettes have a clear benefit in smoking cessation over regular care or nicotine-free e-cigarettes.
Health Effects
A randomized controlled trial published in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine in 2023 evaluated the effectiveness of e-cigarettes in quitting smoking and reducing the frequency of smoking, particularly among traditional smokers. The research team followed more than 1,800 participants for six months, comparing the effects of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes, nicotine-free e-cigarettes, and conventional smoking cessation methods.

Participants who used nicotine-containing e-cigarettes had significantly higher success rates than those who used nicotine-free e-cigarettes or conventional smoking cessation methods. Participants who used e-cigarettes showed significant improvements in lung function and cardiovascular health, especially after reducing the frequency of smoking and quitting.
Reduce Intake Of Harmful Substances
A study published in 2022 in the journal Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, which combined multiple comparative studies of e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes, concluded that most of the toxic substances (such as tar, carbon monoxide, etc.) in e-cigarette smoke are absent, It significantly reduces the exposure of users to harmful substances, so switching to e-cigarettes can significantly reduce the risk of pneumonia, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Social Impact
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2023 explored how the use of e-cigarettes significantly reduced secondhand smoke in public places and improved indoor air quality. The use of e-cigarettes has increased in terms of social acceptance, especially in public places and workplaces.

Conclusion
Although the long-term effects of e-cigarettes still need to be studied further, existing international research has shown that e-cigarettes may have potential benefits in terms of smoking cessation, reducing harmful substance intake, and improving public health.
